Girls Are On Vacation!

The baby girls are staying with Noni and Kpaw for a few days. I will post some pictures from their exciting stay when they get home. Mom and Dad get some much needed time off to do some things around the house, work, and enjoy some adult time with friends. I have such a wonderful mother to WANT to take the twins on. I know she will be worn out but what a great feeling to get to send them home after spending some quality time together! The joys of being Noni and KPaw!

Eden and Pryscilla both have their two bottom teeth now. They are moving all around, not quite crawling, but deff on the move. Eden sleeps on her belly and Pryscilla on her back. Pryscilla is going through a little stage of anxiety. Whenever I leave the room she starts crying until she can see me, also she cries with the vac cleaner, and the car wash. But she's getting better. Yesterday we went through a car wash and she didn't make a peep! They both are in walkers now and still in absolute love with Lola and Roxy (our dogs). I swear the girls get more excited about "puppies" then anything else! They eat baby food 3x a day and are starting to eat some fruit.

Jack Johnson Concert, Houston TX

What a great concert! The best thing about it was how good the sound was. We sat at the very top of the hill and we could still rock out! We got to the show late because it was pouring down, but we made it in perfect time for Jack Johnson. He added in so many unique aspects like a hawaiian singer named Paula Fuga that is traveling with him. She sang a song called the "country road" that was so beautiful. Then there was the accordion he added in to my favorite song "banana pancakes" featured in my short video below...that was so awesome and my favorite moment. "Flake" rocked out and was one of the best songs of the night.

On top of everything that Jack did to make the night special he had these cool backdrops of ocean scenes, underwater, waves, hawaiian country roads, and starry skies. What a beautiful night to spend with my best friends and husband! One day we all will see Jack live in Hawaii but until then this concert was a perfect midpoint!

Pryscilla can say DA-DA!!!!

Pryscilla has officially said her first word! And surprise, surprise it is DA-DA! She said it for the first time on the the 8th but since she has said it every time she is around Brian, so I really think she is "making the connection" maybe not entirely, but on her way! We cheer for her every time she says it and point to her da-da to help her along. It is the cutest thing ever! Now I'm working on Eden saying MA-MA first... ;)

Mimos Pillow

Plagiocephaly, or flat head syndrome is becoming more and more of a problem with infants because of the American Pediatric recommendation that newborns be placed on their backs to sleep as SIDS prevention. This recommendation forces the baby stay on their backs and in the same position for 8-12 hrs. If the infant develops a favorite side they will develop flat head. 


High risk factors of flat head syndrome:

• Twins or from the multiple births
• Born with a lower gestational age (at round 36 weeks
• Male
• With positional preference
• With torticollis
• With head tilt

I actually have a nephew who had a pretty bad case of Torticollis and had to wear a helmet to fix the problem---which it did beautifully and quickly. However, if we had known of a way to prevent it then we may have saved him from having to wear the helmet and my brother and sister in law quite a bit of money. In addition to my nephew, I've noticed it on so many babies nowadays.


So how can you avoid your baby getting flat head? 


You may have a NICU preemie. These babies (like ours were) are constantly monitored by nurses. For the first 3 weeks of life they turned our girls' from side to side and back to belly at least every 3 hours. Eden and Pryscilla came home with perfectly shaped heads and slept a variety of positions. Ours turned from side to side on their own and we just kept an eye on it from then on.


You can set your alarm clock to turn your baby's head to the other side or do so if you are nursing throughout the night. However if you are not nursing and you have a "good sleeper" do you really want to interrupt your precious sleep? I'm thinking NOT. 


You can order the Mimos Pillow. It is made in Australia and from the research I've done works like a dream. If I could go back I would have had these little pillows ready to go in my girls' cribs when they came home. Again, I'm all about minimizing my "mom intervention"! As if we don't already have enough to do. Flat head can happen really quick and without you even realizing it especially when you are sleep deprived, your likely to not even notice.

Family Fun Weekend at HOME!

This weekend turned out to be an unexpected treat. When you move to a new place you always hope for it to feel exciting and fun and perfect for you, especially when you don't really expect it to. Well this week and weekend it finally did. On Friday night we spent the evening at Bryan Lakeside Ice House which is actually just a giant patio on the lake that has live music, adult bevs, and bar food. It has an extremely laid back vibe. We met some of the "regulars", ate some food, and jammed out to a lil' raggae. The girls' loved it and it was so nice sharing that experience with them since it's exactly the kind of thing Brian and I love to do much.

Saturday morning we woke up had coffee in bed and then hit the local farmers market. We ended up buying some awesome steaks, veggies, jelly, salsa, and bread. Saturday night Brian and I grilled out after we worked on the lawn together. (We had some excellent steaks from Wildtype Ranch)

Sunday morning we woke up and went to our new church, St. Mary's, which was the perfect end to a wonderful family weekend!
